CaptionDock privacy policy

Effective October 15, 2026 · CaptionDock 0.2.0

Scope and operator

This policy covers the CaptionDock Chrome extension and its local subtitle-file tool on Toop.club. The operator is rootchen, the individual developer of Toop.club, contact rootchen99@gmail.com. CaptionDock is independent and is not affiliated with YouTube or Google.

Information and purpose

When you request captions, the extension handles the current video ID, title, caption language and text, cue times, source/completeness details and capture time. Imports include subtitle content and filename; notes include text you enter. These are used only for reading, search, timestamp navigation, copying, export, local history and associated notes. Video identity prevents seeking a different video. It does not build general browsing history or use this information for advertising or profiling. Library entries may include the video ID, title, associated link derived from the video ID, capture time and captions that you actively read and save. Imported file content and your notes are also handled user data. They serve only the single purpose of subtitle reading, export and local notes. The extension has no history API permission and does not collect your complete browsing history. Local processing does not mean that no user data is handled.

Local storage and retention

Transcripts and notes reside in the extension’s IndexedDB on your device. Interface language, automatic-history preference and history limit use Chrome local storage. The extension has no accounts, cloud sync, analytics or AI processing; the developer does not receive your library. Automatic history can be disabled. Records with notes are retained beyond the history limit to prevent silent loss. Adding a note explicitly saves its transcript even with automatic history disabled. Data remains until you delete it, uninstall the extension or clear its browser data. Subtitle copies from imported files follow the same local saving rules as read captions. Language and history preferences remain until you change them, uninstall the extension or clear its browser data.

Network requests, copying and sharing

Reading a video may request its available caption track over HTTPS through the current YouTube tab’s normal connection. YouTube processes those requests under its own policies. CaptionDock does not upload transcript history, imported files or notes to the developer or any model provider, sell data, transfer it for advertising or share it for unrelated purposes. Copying writes to your clipboard; exporting creates downloads. You control any later sharing.

Website file tool and hosting

The tool processes imports in browser memory without uploading or persisting them. Reloading, closing or clearing the workspace removes them. CaptionDock product and privacy pages do not load Toop’s page analytics script, third-party fonts or file-processing services. Other Toop pages may use page analytics. Cloudflare hosting receives ordinary page and asset requests and may retain access logs such as IP addresses under its policies; those requests do not contain your imported subtitles or notes. Website language and theme preferences follow Toop’s browser settings.

Your controls

Use the extension’s Library to remove a transcript and associated notes; notes can also be edited or deleted individually. Settings can disable automatic history or clear the whole library. Uninstalling or clearing extension data also removes local information; export important content first. On the website, Clear workspace removes the current file. Clearing the library deletes stored transcripts and notes but retains preferences such as language. Uninstalling or clearing extension data removes those settings. Deleting local copies does not delete the original imported files or previously downloaded exports.

Permissions and security

The extension requests only desktop www.youtube.com access and the sidePanel, storage and clipboardWrite capabilities used by its visible features. It does not request cookies, passwords, microphones or unrelated-site permissions. Local storage security depends on your operating system, browser account and software with access to that account.

Limited Use

CaptionDock uses user information solely for its disclosed subtitle and local-note features. Its handling of information received from Chrome APIs follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Changes and support

If a future release changes data handling, this page and extension disclosures will be updated. Contact rootchen99@gmail.com. After publication, the store listing will also identify the publisher and support channel.
